Very cool. I had an 89 once. Made 89whp. Gutted it and put springs on it and had a bit of fun, but I'd get cut off 3 times a day on my commute and had to sell it to maintain my sanity.

Sounds like you needed the supercharged 89 !

I just picked up an 86 and absolutely adore it, never have I driven a car with such little power that gets sideways so easily, it really is just an oversized go kart. I can't wait to autocross it this summer.

Mine's a supercharged 88

Sounds like you need some Hella Supertones. Makes people get out of the way pretty well.

Congrats! If you need help/advice on anything, shoot me a PM and I'll be happy to help. There aren't hardly any bolts on this car I haven't turned.

Very cool, I've got a turbo '93. Never driven an AW11, I might get one for cheap when I have some property.

All MR2's are great cars. If I could afford it I'd love to add a Spyder to my stable, but those are still too expensive. I like the driving experience of the AW11, the power of the SW20, and the lightness of the Spyder. I suppose a gutted, lightened MK1.5 would be the best of all 3?

I've heard really great things about 3sGTE swaps into the AW11, but it really is just a function of time or money.
I've never been a fan of the Spyder, to be honest.

Spyders are great simply because they are 2100 lbs stock. Lighten it from there and throw in a turbo/2ZZ-GE/Honda K-swap, and you have yourself an autocross monster.

I'm just biased towards convertibles, if it had a real hardtop I'd be more interested.

Wasn't available in the US, but you can import the top and the hardware from overseas if you want. I think it makes the car look a billion times better.

I mean a proper built in coupe, not a bolt-on. I like the lines a lot better, and structural rigidity is improved

Agreed agreed agreed.
The third gen MR2 is an awesome car if not for the fact that it was designed as a convertible :(
It never ceases to amaze me how light it is - and that it's lighter than the AW11 even. It's just a meh looking car and the convertible part makes it more meh. (But I still think it looks better than the SW20)
